Now that's a bird's eye view! Photography reaches new heights as the most incredible images taken by drones are revealed

ar from being restricted to an instrument of war, drones can provide exhilaration and unforgettable memories. The 'Dronestagram' contest sought to find a winning scene shot taken from the sky - and there were some spectacular results that made the judges' job difficult.

However it was rather fitting that the machine replicating that of a winged creature would snap the winning picture - of a bird. Taken in the skies above the Bali Barat National Park in Indonesia, the dronecam caught the terrific wingspan of what appears to be an eagle in flight.

Runner-up was a group shot pic of smiling faces giving a real feel of life in Manila, Philippines with a general view of beautiful Annecy, France in third spot.

The judging was split into two categories; those voted the best by National Geographic and Dronestagram judges, and those that were 'most liked'.

The most liked snap was of the Tamul Waterfall in Mexico, a jaw-dropping shot showing the the true depth of the site.
